SPEED – Seeds with Plasma for Sustainable Environmental Effect

Faced with the many challenges that French agriculture must address, the seed and plant sector aims to prepare for the future by developing an alternative to phytopharmaceutical seed treatments through the application of cold plasma. The objective for the targeted species (durum wheat, barley, beet, onion, and pea) is to evaluate the effects of an aerosol-based plasma treatment on seed germination vigor and disinfection. The project will lead to a better understanding of the mechanisms, identification of technical, economic, and environmental benefits, and the design of an industrializable prototype for seed treatment, providing a competitive advantage to the regional sector.
